Barbie’s unstoppable year continues with a record-breaking 18 Critics Choice Awards nominations—more than any other film has ever received in the award show’s nearly 30-year history, per Variety. (Previous record holders Everything Everywhere All At Once and The Shape Of Water got 14 each.) Margot Robbie, Ryan Gosling, America Ferrera, Ariana Greenblatt, and Greta Gerwig are all among those nominated at this year’s ceremony, which will air January 14 on the CW.
Meanwhile, Oppenheimer and Poor Things racked up a respectable 13 nominations each, including for Best Picture. Emerald Fennell’s Saltburn was among the Best Picture nominees, though the film didn’t garner nods in any other major category; Todd Haynes’ May December, meanwhile, missed out on Best Picture recognition but did receive nominations for Charles Melton, Julianne Moore, and Samy Burch’s screenplay.
Some other fun surprises on the nominee list: Bottoms got a nod in the Best Comedy category, while Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem, left off the list of Golden Globes nominees, made it into the Best Animated Film category. Abby Ryder Fortson was recognized in the Best Young Actor category for Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret. And Godzilla Minus One got a nod for Best Foreign Language Film.
