Awards season is heating up as a number of non-Oscar races have begun to announce their nominations and the countdown to the big day (March 10) draws ever nearer. In advance of the Academy Awards’ official nomination announcement on January 23, the organization has unveiled a number of shortlists that will be whittled down over the course of the upcoming voting period, which will run from January 11-16. These categories include documentary feature film, documentary short film, international feature film, makeup and hairstyling, music (original score), music (original song), animated short film, live-action short film, sound, and visual effects.
There are a few surprises here. Barbie and Priscilla both didn’t make the cut for makeup and hairstyling, for example, while controversial styling choices from Maestro and Golda did. In general, though, the lists are full of all the heavy hitters we expected to see, even if major categories like best picture and lead and supporting actor/actress are still a mystery. Barbie, Oppenheimer, Killers Of The Flower Moon, and Poor Things all show up in multiple categories, as well as United Kingdom international feature film entry The Zone Of Interest and Spanish entry Society Of The Snow.
The Oscars ceremony, hosted by Jimmy Kimmel, will be broadcast March 10 from the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood. Scroll on for the full shortlists.
