A decade ago today, Radiohead released its shatteringly good seventh album, In Rainbows. At the time, much attention was paid to the then-revolutionary “pay what you want” scheme, but over time the record developed a reputation as containing some of the band’s wiliest compositions and brightest production. It’s a perfect 10, at least in that all 10 of its tracks are perfect.
Anyway, the band’s multi-instrumentalist maestro Jonny Greenwood issued the rare tweet yesterday to, um, shout out this SpongeBob meme, which pairs each of the band’s 10 records with a different clip from the endlessly applicable TV show. (He typically just retweets promotional stuff.) Now we know Greenwood’s true feelings: Pablo Honey is dumb, The Bends and A Moon Shaped Pool are for crybabies, Kid A is a total headfuck, and so on. Nothing too daring to these takes, but it’s nice to know Greenwood agrees with the general consensus about the band’s discography.
As for In Rainbows, it gets a groovy surfing clip. Celebrate the band by listening to its grooviest, most surf-friendly album today.
