You can’t talk about “Dolce,” the high-water mark of Hannibal’s third season, without also talking about the sex scene between Alana Bloom and Margot Verger. As if photographed through the personal kaleidoscope of Georgia O’Keeffe, the sequence renders Alana and Margot’s love connection in an artful blur of anatomy and identity. Or, if you’re one of the exceedingly mature staff members of The A.V. Club: it looks like a bunch of vaginas. Vaginas, vaginas, vaginas—vaginas as far as the eye can see. Capitalizing on this moment of peak adulthood and sophistication, we’ve also begun the mourning process of our dear, soon-to-be-departed Hannibal. Come for the implied anatomy, stay for the sincere eulogy.
