Is it even spooky season without another edition of “Treehouse Of Horror” from The Simpsons? The twisted geniuses behind one of TV’s longest running shows annually give us a brand new anthology of hilariously terrifying tales, and it doesn’t matter if you stopped watching the show five, 10, or 20 seasons ago, you can always tune into for a laugh, a fright, or both.
The 34th edition, which aired on November 5, adds three more tales: “Wild Barts Can’t Be Token,” a two-years-too-late takedown of NFTs with a Snowpiercer vibe; “Ei8ht,” a parody of Silence Of The Lambs with a twist ending, and “Lout Break,” an Outbreak-inspired sketch in which everyone turns into Homer. Read on to see which one of those segments made our updated list, which also includes a couple of additions from last year, “The Pookadook” and “Not It.”
Stephen King has proven to be a rich source of inspiration for “Treehouse Of Horror” over the years. Other popular influences have included The Twilight Zone, Edgar Allen Poe, and Alfred Hitchcock. The show has also tackled sci-fi, action, fantasy, and dramas, but the horror episodes will always be our favorite. We’ve re-watched every Treehouse segment with a connection to horror (you’re welcome) and refreshed our ranking of the 31 best tales.
