1. Todd Haynes helms May December

May December | Official Trailer | Netflix

Netflix, Friday, 3:01 a.m.: Todd Haynes’ latest wickedly good film is May December, which comes to Netflix after a limited theatrical release. It follows television star Elizabeth (Natalie Portman), who heads to Georgia to research her next role as Gracie (Julianne Moore), a woman who had a scandalous affair with a young man, Joe (Charles Melton). As Elizabeth gets involved in their lives, it brings long-buried feelings and secrets to the surface. Here’s an excerpt from The A.V. Club’s review:

May December, a prickly story about performance and persuasion, about prejudgments and predation, is a triumph. Its final moments alone will be rattling in the viewer’s head for days, if not years, to come.
