Welcome to the weekend edition of What’s On. Here are the big things happening on TV from Friday, Nov 10 to Sunday, Nov 12. All times are Eastern. [Note: The weekly What’s On publishes on Sundays.]
1. Things are about to get weird as hell on The Curse
Paramount+, Friday, 3:01 a.m.: If Nathan Fielder and Benny Safdie are teaming up, you can bet it’s going to be a bizarre viewing experience. And The Curse delivers on that front. The series follows Whitney (Emma Stone) and Asher Siegel (Fielder), a married couple hosting a controversial HGTV reality show while trying to conceive a child. Safdie co-stars as their producer, Dougie, who is willing to go to extreme lengths for the sake of entertainment. The cast also includes Corbin Bernsen, Gary Farmer, and Barkhad Abdi. The Curse makes its linear premiere on Showtime on November 12, with new episodes airing every Sunday at 10 p.m. Check out The A.V. Club’s recap of the premiere.
2. David Fincher is back on his beat with The Killer
Netflix, Friday, 3:01 a.m.: No, it’s sadly not the third season of Mindhunter, but David Fincher does return to Netflix, this time with his new film The Killer. The crime thriller stars Michael Fassbender as a mysterious professional assassin who might just be losing his mind. Charles Parnell, Tilda Swinton, Arliss Howard, and Sala Baker co-star.
3. It’s time to colonize Mars in For All Mankind
Apple TV+, Friday, 12:01 a.m.: Ronald D. Moore’s alternate history sci-fi drama is back for a fourth season. For All Mankind now enters the 21st century, with the new episodes taking place in 2003 when the U.S., Russia, North Korea, and private company Helios have all set up a successful base on Mars. However, trouble brews when low-level employees there speak up for their rights. Meanwhile, back on Earth, scientists figure out how to capture an asteroid that may prove beneficial for the planet’s future. Read The A.V. Club’s review and be on the lookout for our interview with Moore later this month.
4. Timothée Chalamet takes over SNL
NBC, Saturday, 11:30 p.m.: In news that probably has Club Chalamet frothing at the mouth, Timothée Chalamet is set to host Saturday Night Live again. It’s the Wonka star’s second time taking the stage at Studio 8H. And in even better news, he’ll be joined by excellent musical guest boygenius.
5. Lena Headey stars in the sci-fi series Beacon 23
MGM+, Sunday, 9 p.m.: The psychological sci-fi thriller Beacon 23 follows Aster (Lena Headey) and Halan (Stephan James), who are trapped in an intergalactic lighthouse and must find a way to work together to escape. However, they quickly begin second-guessing each other’s motives. Here’s The A.V. Club’s review of the show.
6. Netflix drops a romantic anthology set during lockdown
Netflix, Friday, 3:01 a.m.: Who’s ready for more pandemic content? At The Moment is here for you, serving up 10 episodes’ worth of unexpected love stories that take place during the COVID-19 lockdown.
