1. Invincible is finally back in action

Prime Video, Friday, 12:01 a.m.: Robert Kirkman’s animated superhero series Invincible returns after a two-and-a-half-year break with four new episodes that will air weekly. (The remaining four season-two eps will arrive next year.) The show catches up with teenager Mark Grayson, a.k.a. Invincible (Steven Yeun), as he deals with the betrayal of his father, starts college, tries to help his mother cope, and becomes Earth’s mightiest superhero. (Damn, that’s a lot to handle.) The voice cast includes Sandra Oh, J.K. Simmons, Gillian Jacobs, Zazie Beetz, Andrew Rannells, Jason Mantzoukas, and Malese Jow. Check out The A.V. Club’s review of the new eps.

2. Quiz Lady pairs Sandra Oh and Awkwafina

Hulu, Friday, 12:01 a.m.: It’s a good weekend to be a Sandra Oh fan, huh? Not only does she deliver an excellent voice performance in Invincible, but she also co-leads the new Hulu film, Quiz Lady. Directed by Jessica Yu, the movie centers on siblings Anne (Awkwafina) and Jenny Yum (Oh), who embark on an adventure to win money to pay off their mother’s debts and, oh yeah, rescue Anne’s kidnapped dog.

3. Gen V closes its first chapter

Prime Video, Friday, 12:01 a.m.: The Boys spin-off Gen V wraps up its gory, fun first season with the finale “The Guardians Of Godolkin.” The episode follows Cate (Maddie Phillips) and Sam’s (Asa Germann) destructive efforts to seek vengeance while their friends try to stop them. Be sure to keep an eye out for some exciting cameos that pave the way for The Boys season four. The A.V. Club’s recap of the episode publishes on Friday at noon.

4. Netflix presents a star-studded Blue Eye Samurai

Netflix, Friday, 3:01 a.m.: Husband-wife duo Michael Green and Amber Noizumi helm Blue Eye Samurai, an animated series that centers on sword master Mizu, voiced by Pen15's Maya Erskine, in 17th century Japan. Randall Park, George Takei, Brenda Song, Darren Barnet, Ming-Na Wen, Stephanie Hsu, and Masi Oka also star.

5. Annette Bening leads sports biopic Nyad

Netflix, Friday, 3:01 a.m.: Annette Bening suits up as Diana Nyad in this drama, which follows the long-distance swimmer’s attempt to swim the 100-plus miles from Cuba to Florida at the age of 60. Nyad’s cast also boasts Jodie Foster and Rhys Ifans. Check out The A.V. Club’s review.

6. Who could resist more Planet Earth?

BBC America, Saturday, 8 p.m.: Any time David Attenborough narrates a nature docuseries, we’re there. He’s back at it for Planet Earth III, which uses drones, high-speed cameras, deep-sea submersibles, and other advanced technology to observe and examine wildlife over eight episodes.
